The captivating principle of Potlatch is its inherent power of attraction and repulsion. The power engaged by this purely Indian Institution is ancient and modern, earthly and ethereal, it is Temple and it is back-alley. Ecology drives the kitchen, not the office and since the office is bound to crave nourishment the kitchen must be consulted first. Chief Dan George prayed with us, Little Big Man then as ever, and Our Hearts soared, when we reviewed these natural principles in the Indian Assemblies of the 1970's, leading up to the Constitution of 1982, and the prognosis for the Planet called for Indians to be the Ecologist we claimed was our heritage, and on such basis all the Leaders of that decade, Elders in their Eighties, born in the 1800's, along with the first graduates of European education to reclaim our Indian Identity, all stood to offer damning critiques of the colonial experiment which had wrecked societies while damaging the environment. When we elected Iona it was to champion, not sabotage, Title and rights. Now who takes blame for the Genocide? And what are the leaders proposing? To sign a treaty. That is how deep the poison is, that Chief Point believes this is a great achievement and the Stalo agree. This is as if the Three Wise Men joined King Herod's court. There are no nations in Potlatch, only Individuals, members of Clans, and of Tribes, and each has Title to the Planet that is protected by Ecology, not by arms. The right thing for the judge to do is surrender to Skidegate.
